The water is peaceful in the lagoon. A cormorant stands on an island in the center, while the view of the trees and street on the far hillside are sparsely represented.
A loose portrayal of scene, the cormorant is the main detail of the small piece. The trees are suggested with indistinct strokes, and the water highlight retains the white of untouched paper. I recall that the red-winged blackbirds above where I and my friends were sitting were vocal, and sometimes targeting my art group with their droppings, as they are wont to do.
